Following the Supreme Court’s directions in the SIR case, Trinamool Congress has stepped up its attack before the elections. Speaking at a rally in Barasat, party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee targeted the Election Commission and the BJP. He declared, “We lost in court today, but we will defeat them in the April polls.”

The top court ordered that a full list of “logical discrepancies” in the voter roll must be published. The Election Commission must clearly explain why any voter’s name is removed. Trinamool said this order supports its long standing claim that the voter list correction process lacked transparency.

Using the verdict, Abhishek alleged that the BJP and a section of the Commission had tried to remove lakhs of genuine voters in Bengal. He said this plan has failed due to the court’s order and called it the end of BJP’s “SIR game.”

He also accused the Centre of blocking Rs 2 lakh crore meant for Bengal because of the BJP’s defeat in the last Assembly election. His target this time is to reduce BJP to below 50 seats. He told voters to take money if offered, but vote for Trinamool.

On Singur, Trinamool said under Mamata Banerjee’s leadership the area has returned to the industrial map, with Rs 500 crore projects creating jobs. Abhishek set the 2026 goal at over 250 seats, saying Bengal will again stand with its own daughter.
