Description:
The release of the final voter list in West Bengal may be delayed beyond the scheduled date. According to sources in the election machinery, it could be difficult to complete all hearings by February 7. As a result, the final list, which was expected on February 14, may not be published on time. If needed, voters may be given an extra 10 days to submit objections. However, no official announcement has yet been made by the Election Commission of India.

As per directions of the Supreme Court of India, lists of voters with discrepancies in their details must be made public so that people can easily check them. In rural areas, these lists will be displayed at panchayat offices and block offices, while in urban areas they will be put up at ward offices. After publication, voters will get 10 more days to submit documents, claims, or objections. Full hearings will be held after that.

Sources also said that around 1.4 lakh voters have been issued notices for document verification. This includes voters whose names were present in the 2002 list, those missing from it, and those with mismatched details. Documents can be submitted through a representative, but the voter must be present during the hearing. For age proof, Madhyamik admit cards along with certificates will be accepted. No special format is needed for document submission, only a stamped receipt. Clear guidelines on domicile certificates are yet to be issued. Overall, to ensure transparency and accuracy, some delay in releasing the final voter list is likely.
