This development follows his arrest in early February after serious sexual assault allegations emerged against him. A complaint filed at the Behala Police Station led to police initiating a case of alleged rape.
The allegations claim Adhikari lured a female friend to his flat under the pretext of helping her move. Once there, he allegedly confiscated her mobile phone and subjected her to physical and mental abuse overnight.
In her police statement, the victim detailed being beaten unconscious. She stated the assault occurred even in the presence of Adhikari’s parents. The parents, she recounted, left out of fear after Adhikari reportedly threatened suicide during the altercation. The victim described her eye as severely swollen and bruised, and attempting to signal Adhikari’s mother for help, but her pleas were reportedly ignored as the mother departed.
She further claimed being held captive until the afternoon, unable to open her eyes properly, and threatened by Adhikari not to disclose the incident. Despite these threats, she bravely approached authorities.
Police registered a case against Shomik Adhikari under various sections of the Nyay Sanhita, including 127(2), 115(2), 7, 4, and 351(2), covering assault, wrongful confinement, and threats. With bail now granted, the legal process moves forward. This case remains significant given Adhikari’s public persona.
