Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Singur, nearly 18 years after the Tata Motors exit, at a time when the state is heading into elections. Though he did not announce any new industrial project from the historic industrial belt, he strongly linked Bengal’s future development to better law and order and the need for a “double engine” government. Addressing a large gathering, Modi said industries would come only when law and order improves. He accused the Trinamool Congress of promoting a culture of syndicate politics, corruption, and alleged links between criminals and the police.

Greeting the crowd in Bengali, he paid respect to the “sacred land of Singur” and claimed that people of Bengal want an end to what he described as 15 years of misrule. He asserted that Bengal’s image would change if the BJP comes to power. Modi also alleged that women are unsafe, the education system is trapped by mafias and corruption, and that jobs will not return as long as the TMC remains in office.

After the rally, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Maynapur–Joyrambati rail line and flagged off three Amrit Bharat Express trains on the Howrah–Anand Vihar, Sealdah–Varanasi and Santragachi–Tambaram routes. Projects worth ₹830 crore were launched or laid. Modi claimed that the scale of railway development in Bengal over the last 24 hours was unprecedented. However, the absence of a clear industrial roadmap for Singur has once again raised questions about the region’s future.
