The Delhi government has announced a major relief for poor families ahead of Holi and Diwali. To reduce kitchen expenses during the festive season, the government will provide support for free LPG gas cylinders. The decision was approved by the cabinet led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

As per the plan, the government has set aside around Rs 300 crore for this scheme. The main aim is to give direct financial relief to economically weaker families so that cooking expenses do not become a burden during festivals.

This benefit will be available only to families holding ration cards and covered under the Public Distribution System. In the first phase, nearly 17.18 lakh families are expected to benefit from this initiative.

Instead of delivering cylinders directly to homes, the government will use the Direct Benefit Transfer method. An amount equal to the price of one LPG cylinder, around Rs 850, will be sent directly to the Aadhaar-linked bank accounts of eligible families. They can then buy the cylinder from their nearest gas agency.

The scheme is expected to reduce household worries during festivals and help families celebrate Holi and Diwali with more happiness.
