IndiGo Cancels Flights to Four International Cities Till January 28 Amid Rising Tensions Around Iran

IndiGo Airlines on Monday announced that it has cancelled its flight operations to and from four international cities till January 28, 2026. The affected cities are Tbilisi in Georgia, Almaty in Kazakhstan, Tashkent in Uzbekistan, and Baku in Azerbaijan. The airline said the decision was taken after closely reviewing the security situation linked to recent developments in the region around Iran.

In an official statement, IndiGo made it clear that the safety of passengers and crew members remains its highest priority. The airline informed that flights scheduled to operate on January 26, January 27, and January 28 have been cancelled. This step, according to the airline, is a precautionary measure taken after careful assessment of the prevailing conditions in the region.

IndiGo said it is closely monitoring the situation and is staying alert to any further changes. The airline added that it is proactively reviewing its flight operations to ensure that safety is not compromised under any circumstances. The company also assured passengers that it will continue to share updates as and when required.

The statement from IndiGo read that the airline remains vigilant to developments in the region around Iran and is continuously reviewing flight operations. After assessing the current situation, the airline decided to cancel flights to and from the four cities for the mentioned dates. The airline stressed once again that passenger safety is the most important factor behind this decision.

This move by IndiGo comes at a time when Iran is witnessing severe unrest, which is being described as one of the deadliest phases of protests in the country in several decades. Thousands of people have taken to the streets in Tehran and many other cities to protest against the country’s leadership. What started as protests over rising prices and high inflation later turned into larger demonstrations against the ruling establishment.

According to reports by rights groups, the protests have resulted in a very high number of casualties. The United States based Human Rights Activists News Agency, also known as HRANA, said it has verified the deaths of 3,090 people across the country. Out of these, 2,885 were reported to be protesters. This information was quoted in a report by Reuters.

The demonstrations have been reported from several major cities including Tehran, Mashhad, and Isfahan. Protesters have raised strong slogans against Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. These developments have increased concerns about regional stability, especially for airlines that operate routes passing near or over sensitive areas.

Due to the growing instability, many airlines across the world have been reassessing their flight paths and operations in the region. IndiGo’s decision reflects a wider trend in the aviation industry, where airlines are choosing caution over risk in response to geopolitical tensions.

Passengers who were scheduled to travel on the cancelled flights are expected to be informed by the airline through official communication channels. IndiGo is likely to offer options such as rescheduling or refunds, as per its standard policy, though passengers are advised to check directly with the airline for the latest updates.

The airline industry often takes such steps during periods of conflict or unrest to ensure that flights do not pass through areas that could pose a risk. Aviation experts say that while such cancellations can cause inconvenience to travelers, safety must always come first.

As the situation in Iran continues to evolve, airlines like IndiGo are expected to keep a close watch and take further decisions based on how events unfold. For now, flights to and from Tbilisi, Almaty, Tashkent, and Baku will remain cancelled till January 28, 2026.

IndiGo has urged passengers to stay updated through its official website and customer support channels for any further announcements. The airline has also advised travelers to plan their journeys accordingly and remain patient during this uncertain period.
