US Approves Multi-Billion Dollar Arms Sale to Israel and Saudi Arabia Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

At a time when tensions between the United States and Iran are at their peak, the US government has approved the sale of military weapons worth several billion dollars to Israel and Saudi Arabia. The approval was given by the US State Department on Friday, highlighting Washington’s continued involvement in the security affairs of the Middle East.
According to an official statement from the US State Department, the United States has cleared the sale of 30 Apache attack helicopters to Israel. The total value of this deal is estimated at 3.8 billion dollars. The statement clearly mentioned that the United States remains firmly committed to Israel’s security, and the proposed arms sale aligns with that long-standing policy.
Along with the Apache helicopters, the weapons package also includes Joint Light Tactical Vehicles worth around 1.8 billion dollars. These vehicles are modern, armored, and designed for multiple military purposes, including troop transport and combat support. Every year, the United States supplies Israel with military equipment worth several billion dollars. However, much of this support is provided as direct military aid rather than commercial sales.
At the same time, the US State Department has also approved a massive arms deal with Saudi Arabia. Under this agreement, Saudi Arabia will purchase 730 Patriot missiles at an estimated cost of 9 billion dollars. Patriot missiles are advanced air defense systems used to intercept and destroy incoming threats such as enemy aircraft, drones, and ballistic missiles. This deal is seen as a key move to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s defensive capabilities, especially amid growing regional instability.
The Middle East continues to remain tense despite a temporary slowdown in active fighting in Gaza. In October last year, Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas agreed to a ceasefire through US mediation. This truce reduced the intensity of a war that had lasted for nearly two years in Gaza. However, unrest and conflict continue in other parts of the region, keeping the overall situation fragile.
Last year, Israel carried out major air strikes on Iran’s nuclear and military facilities. These attacks significantly escalated tensions between the two regional rivals. Meanwhile, Iran is facing intense international pressure due to its strict crackdown on anti government protests. Thousands of people have reportedly lost their lives during these protests, drawing strong criticism from human rights groups and foreign governments.
In addition to this, Israel’s ongoing military actions in Palestinian territories have slowed down the process of normalising relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia. The historic effort to build diplomatic ties between Riyadh and Tel Aviv has largely stalled for now, mainly due to concerns over the Palestinian issue.
Overall, the latest US arms approvals highlight Washington’s strategic priorities in the Middle East, even as the region remains deeply divided and politically unstable.
