Friends in Delhi, bitter enemies in Bengal

Millions of everyday voters just watched their leaders flip the script completely. Just days ago, these politicians stood shoulder to shoulder in the national capital. They smiled for the cameras. They swore to fight together. Now, the gloves are completely off. Politics is a strange and often confusing game.

Rahul Gandhi just ripped into Mamata Banerjee’s government during a fiery campaign rally in Raiganj. It is a massive shift from their friendly national posture. Nationally, the Congress and Trinamool Congress are supposed to be close allies. They even joined forces recently to file complaints against the election commission. But down in the dust of West Bengal? They are bitter rivals. Gandhi did not hold back for a single second. He directly blamed ruling party thugs for the horrifying RG Kar hospital incident. He called out the state government for failing to take any real responsibility for the safety of women. Then, he took a sharp aim at the state economy. He thinks the current leadership is simply fooling the public.

What’s actually happening here is simple: Rahul Gandhi from the Congress party is aggressively attacking Mamata Banerjee’s government in West Bengal. He is calling them out on crime, massive unemployment, and political violence. Why? Because state elections force national allies to fight bitterly for local survival.

Is this just another case of political hypocrisy?

Let us look closely at the job numbers Gandhi threw out to the crowd. He openly mocked the state youth allowance scheme. He pointed out a very harsh reality. The state claims they are creating five lakh new jobs. Yet, a staggering eighty-four lakh young people are desperately lining up for unemployment handouts. That paints a grim picture. It hits hard for families struggling to make ends meet. But there is a glaring double standard hiding in plain sight here.

When the Congress party recently ruled big states like Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, they did the exact same thing. They handed out the exact same type of unemployment checks to keep young voters happy. Praising a policy in your own backyard while attacking it in a rival state is classic political theater. Gandhi did not stop at jobs. He accused the ruling party of running the entire industrial sector into the ground. He noted that this downward trend actually started decades ago with the Left Front government.

The attacks grew even sharper as the speech went on. He claimed that local Congress workers face daily physical violence from ruling party members. The most stinging insult was saved for last. Gandhi stated that the current government’s culture of violence and corruption is secretly laying out a welcome mat for the BJP. If the ruling party played fair, he argues, the BJP would not stand a chance in Bengal. This entire clash shows us one clear truth about Indian elections. A national alliance means absolutely nothing when local assembly seats are on the line.
